Max, an eight-year-old black male, was given up to a shelter because his owner no longer wanted him.

Max is doing great here in Crozet and has adjusted well to his new home. He has made friends with many of the dogs in the neighborhood and plays with his next door neighbor friend whenever he sees him. When he isn't playing with friends, he is following us around the house or chasing squirrels and rabbits around the yard. He likes to take care of my sons when they are sick (both contracted a horrible throat virus in recent weeks.) He still talks quite a bit and we are convinced that we can teach him to say "mama." He is just so smart. Last month, he hiked up Humpback Rock with the family. He managed it much better than I did. At 8 years old, he is still a spring chicken.
